From early Spring through the Fall season, Michigan City
is on the move with numerous annual events to excite the senses of all ages.
Join the festive and entertaining atmosphere.

• Washington Park parking stickers will be available starting March.
NOTE: the old Park Dept. building is now closed. Temporary location for stickers is at the Senior Center.

• Change your clocks, March 13 SPRING BEGINS MARCH 20!.

• CONCERTS IN THE PARK
Beautiful orchestrations under the stars. Outdoor amphitheater at Washington Park.
Free. Weekly, Thursdays, June-August.

• FARMERS MARKET
The corner lot downtown designated as the local Farmers Market. The Outdoor Market
begins to present fresh produce in May, and is open into October. Saturdays only.
Or hit the fields for delicious u-pick!

• Hoosier Coho Club Classic Fishing Tournament, Apr 30 - May 1, 2011

• Kiddie Parade June 12, 2011

• The 4X4 MUD BOG is still discontinued.


• SUMMER FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES
A wide assortment of activities encompassing several weekends in July and August, at many
locations. Some days are filled with continuous events, so plan accordingly.

• Skamania Mania FREE fishing contest July 3-4

• BIG Annual Franklin Street Parade for 2011 is JULY 2nd.

• Beach Jam, July 9 - 10.
5K Zoo Run/Walk, July 9.
Cardboard Boat Race on July 9 starting at Noon.

• FIREWORKS climax at Washington Park. July 10, dusk. Be prepared to join about 30,000 people.

• Car Cruise to the Beach: no date announced. Hundreds of Cars arrive at Washington Park about 4pm for public viewing.
A street dance follows.

• Skateboard/BMX Competition July 17. (MC SkatePark, Hwy US 12. Free Admission.)

• 3rd ANNUAL SUPERBOAT RACES ... directly off the beach on Lake Michigan. A powerful event. AUG 5-7, 2011.
View the monster 5,000 HP boats daily. Fun, food, entertainment. Race Day is Aug 7.

• DCI Quarterfinals Competition Aug 8 - 9, 2011. Ames Field.
(DCI World Championship will be Aug. 13 in Indianapolis.)

• LAKEFRONT ART FESTIVAL AUG 20 - 21, 2011
Choose from beautiful works by local artists/photographers and crafters.
Outdoors at Washington Park. An entire weekend in August. $4 admisson fee.

• IN-WATER BOAT SHOW AUG 25-28, 2011
The largest in-water boat show on Lake Michigan. Power & Sail.
Magnificient yachts to speedboats. Large area of shore exhibits and nautical accessories.
A 4 day event, in August. Entertainment. Food. Refreshments. (Laporte County residents get free admission on Aug 18.)
NOTE: Dates for the current year Boat Show are usually released in January.

• TRI-STATE SAILING RACE (Labor Day)
During this September race, Michigan City is one of the ports to view
the participating sailing vessels. They arrive from Michigan, and depart
the following morning on the final leg back to Chicago to declare the winner.

• SUMMER FESTIVAL LABOR DAYZ Sep 2-5, 2011.
A party atmosphere the entire Labor Day weekend. Held in Washington Park
at the lakefront. Arts, crafts, food, rides, bands, beer tents.

• OKTOBERFEST Washington Park: October 8-9, 2011

• PIONEER DAYS
Scheduled in September at Creek Ridge County Park.

• "BOO" AT THE ZOO
Held in October at the Washington Park Zoo.

• FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
Each Christmas season, the Park Department illuminates Washington Park
with hundreds of thousands of lights, decorations, and animations to fill the air
with a spectacular holiday mood. Lights are on from Dec 3-31.
Extremely beautiful when there is a fresh snow.

ANNUAL MISERY
If you have ever wondered why we talk about all the fun of Spring, Summer, and Fall ......
now is your chance to view that "other" season. Chill out, it's an annual event.
