WORKSHOP I: Whet Your Appetite for Watercolor Pencils

Discover the pleasure of painting with watercolor pencils. This is a perfect "bridge" for both the artists who love to draw and those who enjoy the fluid beauty of watercolor. There will be demonstrator sets of several brands of water-soluble colored pencils available for student use and experimentation, as well as some sets available for purchase. Learn how to spatter, brush, wash, and intensify colors with the help of the remarkable watercolor pencil. This is truly a great way to spend a day, "painting from a point". All levels of students: experiment, explore, and enjoy!

Kristy is a graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, with both bachelor and master’s degrees in education, as well as a life license in teaching. She has taught colored pencil workshops for students of all ages and levels of experience in all parts of the country. Her educational style is friendly, informative, relaxed, and supportive of the individual artist’s personal style. Largely self-taught through more than fifteen years of experimentation and avid reading, she cultivates the enthusiasm of her students, whether they are beginners or accomplished artists. She is a contributor to "The Best of Colored Pencil 1, 3, and 5"; "Creative Colored Pencil"; "Design": "Illustration"; "The Best of Business Card Design 3"; "Creating Radiant Flowers in Colored Pencil"; "Floral Inspirations"; and "Exploring Color" (Revised Edition). Mystic New England, with it’s enchanting cobbled stone villages dotting the rugged Atlantic coastline, has given artist Line’ Tutwiler a warehouse of images that grace her artistic expressions in both oil and watercolor works. The Michigan City Art League is honored to host a one-day Workshop where Tutwiler will work with individuals to glean from her experience as a full-time working artist.

After moving with her family to the Midwest from their California roots, Line’ studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago in the 1970’s. After meeting and marrying artist David Tutwiler, she made the move to the East Coast. Line’, along with David and six children winters in Indiana and summers at their home and studio in Massachusetts. She specializes in New England architecture, as well as landscapes and seascapes.

Her works have won awards since the 1970’s in such shows as the Oak Brook Promenade, Oak Brook, Ill.; Gorton’s of Gloucester, Gloucester, Mass.; and the Great American Artists Show, Cincinnati, Ohio to name just a few. She has professional memberships with the Rockport Art Association, Rockport, Mass.; North Shore Art Association, Gloucester, Mass.; Chesterton Art Association, Chesterton, Ind.; and Oil Painters of America, Chicago, Ill.
