• FARMERS MARKET
The corner lot downtown designated as the local Farmers Market. The Outdoor Market
begins to present fresh produce in May, and is open into October. Saturdays only.

• COLUMBIA YACHT RACE
Each June, on Lake Michigan. Since 1891, the oldest continuous
fresh water race in the world.

A wide assortment of activities encompassing several weekends in July and August, at many
locations. Some days are filled with continuous events, so plan accordingly.

• Pro-Am Volleyball competition on the beach. JULY 4-5.
• Sand Castle contest at the beach. July 13.
• FIREWORKS climax at Washington Park. July 13, dusk. Be prepared to join about 30,000 people.
• Old Car Cruise nite to the park, and dance. July 19th.
• Skateboard Competition July 20th.
• DCI Drum & Bugle Corps. competition, Ames Field. (Aug 5)
The 1st time Michigan City will host World Competition.
• LAKEFRONT ART FESTIVAL AUG 16-17, 2008

Outdoors at Washington Park. An entire weekend in August.
• IN-WATER BOAT SHOW AUG 21-24, 2008
The largest in-water boat show on Lake Michigan. Power & Sail.
Magnificient yachts to speedboats. Large area of shore exhibits and nautical accessories.
A 4 day event, in August. Entertainment. Food. Refreshments.

• TRI-STATE SAILING RACE
During this September race, Michigan City is one of the ports to view
the participating sailing vessels. They depart here on the final
leg back to Chicago to declare the winner.
• SUMMER FESTIVAL LABOR DAYZ Aug 29-Sep 1.
A party atmosphere the entire Labor Day weekend. Held in Washington Park
at the lakefront. Arts, crafts, food, rides, bands, beer tents.
• OKTOBERFEST Washington Park:
October 11-12, 2008
• PIONEER DAYS
Scheduled in September at Creek Ridge County Park.
• "BOO" AT THE ZOO
Held in October at the Washington Park Zoo.
• FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
Each Christmas season, the Park Department illuminates Washington Park
with hundreds of thousands of lights, decorations, and animations to fill the air
with a spectacular holiday mood. Lights are on from Dec 1-31.
Extremely beautiful when there is a fresh snow.
• ANNUAL MISERY
If you have ever wondered why we talk about all the fun of Spring, Summer, and Fall ......
