PHILOSOPHY
The wishbone is a team oriented offense that
is predicated on the basis of all eleven offensive players doing
their jobs. All eleven players must be aggressive. All eleven
players must execute their assignments. All eleven players must
hit. It is an attack offense. Wishbone people do not get bored
with running the same play. It is a mindset that realizes that
success comes from relentlessly attacking the defense. It is a
simple offense, the success of which does not lie in the number
of plays used but rather in the successful execution of a limited
amount of plays. The plays are based on sound technique and repetition.
It is a stable offense regardless of the defense. It is a fundamentally
sound offense. Technique is coached over and over; and this repetition
will lead to perfection. In addition, since the same technique
is used by the players again and again, the coaching staff is
given the opportunity to stress the little things that lead to
victory. Things such as mental intensity, keep the ball, no turnovers.
The opponent's defensive preparation is complicated
by the fact that Triple Option football requires defensive assignments
for the defensive team. This takes away from the defense's aggressive
nature. It also means that a relatively simple defensive game
plan will be used. The ability to READ the defense at the Point
of Attack eliminates physical mismatches. The balanced formation
places the defense in abnormal situations where there is no strong
side to be defended. In addition the balanced formation means
that a defense that protects the wide side of the field will also
be placed in a numbers disadvantage in defending the Triple Option.
How the defee adjusts, determines where the offense will attack.
It is an ATTACK offense with few negative yardage playes. This
makes for an excellent ball control offense; while at the same
time the Triple Option allows the BIG play potential which all
offenses desire. It is an enhanced pass offense since much of
the defense is geared to stopping the Triple Option both mentally
and physically. This allows the offense excellent opportunities
to successfully pass the football.
