INDIANA OPTION CAMPS, INC.
In 1992 the Indiana Wishbone Association made another step forward. Coach Bob Copeland presented an idea to the coaches that attended the IWA clinic which was being held at Warsaw High School in Warsaw, Indiana. Coach Copeland suggested that we start our own camp. For years Indiana coaches were traveling to Wisconsin and Illinois to camps that specialized in the Wishbone Offense. Bob suggested that we could conduct camps equally as well as the ones we were traveling many hours to have our athletes attend. Coach Copeland Investigated idea and after many hours of searching and evaluation presented Taylor University as the site of Indiana Option Camps, Inc.
Since 1993 the camp has expanded and improved each year. Participation has increased each year. The increased numbers led to adding a second session. The camp directors are constantly working to improve the camp. Option football is the emphasis of this camp. The Options that we work are: Triple Option, Double Option, Inside Veer, Outside Veer, Mid-Line, complimentary plays, and passing. We work quarterback-fullback mesh. Formations include full house wishbone, spread set (Air Force) and other wing back formations.
The camp has a special emphasis on linemen technique. Linemen are drilled on stance, explosion, and proper drive techniques. We use sled, stand-up dummies and hand shields to work linemen skills. The linemen work on various blocks, base, fold, trap, reach (scoop), cross, and double team. They work team blocking for the various options that are run at camp. On the last practice of camp, we have team scrimmage. It allows near game situation without live tackling.
TAYLOR UNIVERSITY
Taylor University is located in Upland, Indiana, about 1 hour north east of Indianapolis and 40 minutes south of Fort Wayne. Take Interstate 69 to the Upland Exit, then Route 22 through Upland to the Campus.
